Posture

Posture is the positioning of your body. If you have good posture, your body weight is evenly distributed and supported by your muscles and ligaments. If you have bad posture, some muscles support more of your body weight than they were designed to, and can become strained from the extra work.

Your muscles are always working, even if you are sitting doing nothing. When you sit, the muscles in your lower back are working to maintain your body’s position, and the muscles in your shoulders and upper back are working to keep your head upright.

If you have good posture, all the muscles in your neck and shoulders support the weight of your head evenly. If you sit hunched over, the muscles in the back of your neck have to tighten up to provide extra support, which leads to neck pain and stiffness. Therefore, maintaining good posture plays an important role in avoiding a repetitive strain injury.
